Take a day excursion to one of the area’s eco-reserves such as the Marietas Islands or Los Arcos National Marine Park for superior snorkeling and scuba diving through protected reefs.

For a more stimulating adventure, try mountain biking in the natural environment of the Sierra Madre Mountains, bungee jumping 120 feet off a cliff overlooking the emerald blue waters of the south bay, horseback rides on a remote beach or enjoying a jeep safari or ATV ride on challenging mountain terrains.

Take the family exploring Mexican traditions in Puerto Vallarta’s rural countryside on a quad bike or zip from tree to tree in a canopy tour in the rainforest.

If your visit coincides with the season, you can whalewatch December to April or take part in the protection of the Olive Ridley marine turtle July to January when the turtles come to lay their eggs on the beach and the new hatchlings are released every night into the ocean.

Sea kayaking, in itself, is a great way to enjoy the ocean while admiring the panorama offered by the landscape. It’s also a good way to reach certain areas otherwise difficult to attain, such as small isolated beaches or islands. Personally, I love the peacefulness the open sea offers and I will often stop, just to listen at the water brushing against the side of the kayak. The immensity and quietness of all that open space puts everything back into perspective.
